Tree for Me Event: Get Your Hands on Some FREE Trees

Need a little more green in your garden but don’t want to splurge at the garden center? Then simply head over to the Tree for Me event at Mimico Square (Amos Waites Park) on October 14th.

The Mimico Residents Association (MRA) is partnering with Lakeshore Arts to offer up to two trees per household, absolutely free. All you have to do is register online and show up to pick up your trees.

How It Works

Tree planting needs some careful planning so there are a few steps you’ll need to follow, including selecting the right spot to plant your tree and taking a quiz to find out which type of tree is right for you. Aside from trees, there are also shrubs available, including some that may be suitable for pot planting.

Once you’ve met your match, you can register for an event (the Mimico Square one or another) and claim your trees. Remember to do this before October 7th for this particular event.

The Benefits of Tree Planting

You probably don’t need to be sold on the aesthetic benefits of planting a couple of extra trees in your yard. We all know how lovely it can be when spring comes around and those leaves fill out.

But did you know that planting more trees can save you money and even increase the value of your home? They can provide shade to help conserve energy, block the wind, add curb appeal, and improve privacy.

Don’t have a yard or already have enough trees? You can still join in the fun and help the cause by caring for a seedling. Once it’s large enough, you can choose to keep it, gift it, or give it to a Tree for Me event.

All that’s left for you to do is to hop online before Obtober 7th and register for your trees. If you can’t make the Mimico Residents Association event, there are tons of events happening in and around Toronto during September and October. Just check the website for more details.
