What’s up for the holidays? We’ve got your go-to guides of fun things to do in Etobicoke!
While you might be busy visiting friends and relatives during the holidays, it’s still nice to get out and about. Plus, there is plenty going on in the local area. For our special holiday post, we’ve found eleven fun things to do in Etobicoke over Christmas and New Year. Let’s go!
1. Great Lakes Brewery Open House

Where: Great Lakes Brewery
Start the holidays off right with a bit of Christmas cheer, brought to you by Great Lakes Brewery. 2017 is their 30th anniversary and they want to finish it off with a thanks to their patrons. There’ll be samples of their festive favorite brew, Grandpa’s Ol’ White Eggnog Stout, as well as beer-infused treats and live music.
2. The Greatest Love Story – A Celebration of Christ this Christmas

Where: Kingsview Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church
December 23rd is “Music Day” at Kingsview Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church. A divine worship presentation called “The Greatest Love Story” will be the main feature in a celebration of peace, joy, hope, and love.
3. Christmas Eve Services

Where: Islington United Church
It’s so easy to get caught up in gifts, decorations, and food around this time of year, and that makes Christmas Eve church services extra special. You can get together with family and friends, sing festive hymns, and remember the true meaning of Christmas. Many churches, such as Islington United Church, will include special family services, often with a children’s pageant and carols. Check for information from your local parish.
4. Free Community Boxing Day Brunch

When: Tuesday, December 26th, 11am – 1:30pm
Where: Kingsview Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church
After staying inside all of Christmas Day, it’s often nice to head out and meet up with friends on Boxing Day. You can make a stop at Kingsview Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church where they’ll be serving up a free brunch to members of the community.
5. Skating at Your Local Rink

Where: Your local rink
With the kids off school and lots of time to spend together, it’s great to get outside in the fresh air. Plus, with all of the indulgent food this time of year, it’s nice to get some exercise! Why not lace up your skates and head to your local rink or trail, like the one at Colonel Sam Smith Park?
6. Christmas Dinner Among Friends

Where: St. Margaret’s New Toronto
St. Margaret’s New Toronto realizes that not everyone has a place to go on Christmas Day, and that some would just like the company of friends old and new. They’re holding a Christmas dinner open to everyone in the community. Aside from a nice hot meal, guests will also receive a gift from Santa!
7. Montgomery’s Inn Farmers Market

Where: Montgomery’s Inn
No doubt you’ll be doing some stocking and restocking of food over the holidays, especially when it comes to fresh produce. Why not give the packed supermarket a miss and visit one of our wonderful local year-round farmers’ markets. These markets, like the one at Montgomery’s Inn always have such a wonderful atmosphere at this time of year. Plus you’ll be buying delicious fresh produce and supporting local businesses.
8. Nickelback Tribute at the Rockpile

Where: The Rockpile
Cost: $15
Does someone in the family love Nickelback? Tickets to tribute band, Nickelbach could be the perfect last-minute gift. They’ll be performing at the Rockpile this Friday, with special guests Maximum Over Drive.
9. New Year’s Card Party

Where: Islington Seniors Centre
Cost: $5
Care to make this game a little more interesting? Join in the New Year’s Card Party at Islington Seniors Centre and you’ll be in to win cash prizes. There’ll also be a light lunch, dessert, and tea or coffee.
10. New Years Eve at Old Mill

If you fancy getting dressed up and ringing in the New Year in style, there’s no need to head all the way downtown. Old Mill has so much to offer on New Year’s Eve, including delicious food, music from a variety of genres, and of course elegant surroundings. Choose from a dance party, a gala, or a jazz party, depending what you’re in the mood for.
11. Toronto Polar Bear Dip

Where: Sunnyside Beach
Do you often hear about those crazy people who swim in the lake on New Year’s Day, but secretly wish you were on of them? Go ahead… you’ll be joining hundreds more and it’s all for a good cause. The proceeds of the Toronto Polar Bear Dip at Sunnyside Beach go to Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.
