With this wave of hot weather, it’s clear summer is really here. While many people will be jetting off on summer vacations, there’s still plenty happening in and around our local area. Every month, we bring you our top ten list of fun things to do in Etobicoke. Check out what’s on the list this month!

1. Summerlicious

When: Daily from July 6th – 22nd

Where: Participating restaurants

Summerlicious is always a much-anticipated event and gives you the chance to sample a whole range of restaurants without having to pay full price. Participating restaurants in Etobicoke include Merlot, ViBo, and Pulcinella.

2. Westway Christian Church Community Kids Fun Fest

When: Saturday, July 21st, 10am – 2pm

Where: Westway Christian Church, 6 Kilburn Pl, Etobicoke, ON M9R 2X5

This free event run by Westway Christian Church is sure to be a big hit with the kids. They’ll enjoy games, including potato sack races and a bean bag toss, and have a ton of fun on the bouncy pirate ship.

3. Cooking with Strawberries at Jean Augustine Centre

When: Tuesday, July 10th, 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Where: Jean Augustine Centre, 101 Portland St, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 1B1

With all the fresh and juicy Ontario strawberries available, do you ever wonder about doing something a bit interesting with them? Well, you can learn how to create some delicious recipes at the Cooking with Strawberries workshop at Jean Augustine Centre.

4. Etobicoke Community Concert Band

When: Wednesdays, July 4th and July 18th, 7pm

Where: Broadacres Park, Applewood House Gardens, 450 The West Mall, Etobicoke, ON M9C 1E9

The Etobicoke Community Concert Band comprises more than 40 talented local musicians and regularly performs fantastic concerts in and around Etobicoke. This month, you can catch them on two Wednesdays at Applewood House on the West Mall.

5. Travelling Critters at Stonegate Farmers’ Market

When: Tuesday, July 10th, 4:30pm

Where: Stonegate Farmers’ Market, Parking Lot, 194 Park Lawn Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 3J1

The framers’ market doesn’t just have to be a place to buy your fresh produce. It can also be a super fun day out for kids and adults alike. The Stonegate Farmers’ Market often holds special events, and on July 10th, they’ll be getting a visit from the Traveling Critters crew. Market attendees will have the chance to get up close with lots of animals, from cuddly and cute ones to scaly and maybe even scary ones.

6. Fusion of Taste Festival

When: July 29th, 12pm – 9:30pm

Where: Albion Islington Square, 925 Albion Rd #100, Etobicoke, ON M9V 1A6

This event, run by the Albion Islington Square Business Improvement Area will be a huge celebration of cultures from all over the world. There’ll be more than 100 artists performing and lots of yummy food to sample.

7. Shakespeare in High Park

When: June 28th – September 2nd (Romeo and Juliet: Tue, Thu, Sat at 8pm; Dream: Wed, Fri, Sun at 8pm)

Where: High Park Amphitheatre, 1873 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6R 2Z3

Cost: Pay-What-You-Can

Every year, Canadian Stage presents a wonderful Shakespeare performance in High Park, with shows happening almost daily for over two months. This year, there’ll be two plays to enjoy: Romeo + Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The atmosphere of an open-air performance is really special, so take along a blanket and snacks and enjoy!

8. Quilts At The Creek

When: Saturday & Sunday, July 28th – 29th, 11am – 5pm

Where: Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Pkwy, North York, ON M3J 2P3

Cost: $11 – 15

On the last weekend of the month, Black Creek Pioneer Village will be adorned with wonderful splashes of color. More than 200 beautiful quilts will be on display, creating an unforgettable art experience for visitors.

9. Friday Night Outdoor Movies at Downsview Park

When: Fridays, July 6th and 27th, dusk (approx. 9pm)

Where: Football Field & Running Track, Downsview Park, 79 Carl Hall Road, North York, ON

This one isn’t quite in Etobicoke but wouldn’t be too far of a trek for many Etobicoke residents. And the experience of seeing a movie al fresco is definitely worth it. Choose a Friday or go every week and watch them all.

10. Masters Indigenous Games

When: Sunday, July 15th, 12pm – 5pm

Where: Downsview Park, 35 Carl Hall Rd, North York, ON M3K 2B6

Another event happening at Downsview Park this month is the very first Masters Indigenous Games. This event will involve a variety of traditional and contemporary activities, but will also celebrate the cultures of Indigenous groups from across the globe.
