Every month, we’ll be bringing our top picks for places to visit and events to attend. In this post, you’ll find ten super fun things to do in Etobicoke in January. Let’s jump in!
1. Old Mill Ukrainian Christmas Buffet

Where: Old Mill, 21 Old Mill Rd, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1G5
Cost: $20.95 – $40.95
Do you celebrate Ukrainian Christmas or want to join in the fun anyway? Old Mill is hosting its 2nd annual Ukrainian Christmas Buffet on Sunday and there’s a feast in store for all who attend. Aside from delicious Ukrainian food, there’ll also be traditional decorations, wood-burning fireplaces, and Ukrainian carols.

Where: Various restaurants
Cost: $23 – $53
It’s that time of year again when restaurnats across Toronto offer up stunning prixe fixe menus at very resoanable prices. Etobicoke participants include Merlot on Bloor, Beaumont Kitchen at Sherway Gardens Mall, Old Mill, and more.
3. Lakeshore Village Clothes Swap

Where: Living Hope Toronto, 66 Tenth St, Etobicoke, ON M8V 3G1
While you’re packing away Christmas presents, it’s the perfect time for a sort out. But what to do with all of those clothes that you’ve hardly worn and will probably never wear again. That’s where the Lakeshore Village Clothes Swap comes in. Take along a maximum of 15 gently used clothing items (and unlimited shoes and accessories). Then choose other items to take home with you. A whole new wardrobe just like that.
4. Etobicoke Camera Club Presents Kas Stone

Have you got the hang of photography but need help to go that step further? Then this presentation is for you. In Beyond Technique, professional photographic artist, Kas Stone, will be exploring artistic creativity. She’ll offer a fresh perspective and challenge you to make your images even better.
5. Chefs for Change

Where: Propeller Coffee Roastery, 50 Wade Ave, Toronto, ON M6H 2Z3
Cost: $150
If you’re a foodie, you’ll love this event that brings together chefs from Toronto and across Canada. And if you love giving back to the community then it’s a double win. This event supports Community Food Centres Canada which helps low-income communities change the way they eat. Book a spot for one of the January dates, or if you can’t make those, February and March dates are also available. An added bonus on January 25th is that our own Etobicoke brewer, Great Lakes Brewery, will be participating.
6. The Original Bridal Swap Toronto West

Where: Renaissance by the Creek, 3045 Southcreek Rd, Mississauga, ON L4X 2X7
Cost: $11 – $20
If you, or anyone you know has recently gotten married or will be getting married soon, this is an awesome event. It gathers past and future brides, as well as professional wedding vendors, all in one place. Past brides can recoup some of their wedding expenses by selling their only-used-once décor and attire. And future brides can get nearly-new gear at a fraction of the usual cost!
7. Movie Matinees at Islington Seniors’ Centre

When: Most Thursdays, 1pm – 3pm
Where: Islington Seniors Centre, 4968 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M9A 1B7
A movie on a cold day is great, but it’s even better when you have company. Most Thursdays, you can head over to Islington Seniors’ Centre to enjoy a movie afternoon with friends old and new. January movies include A Chorus Line, The Four Feathers, and Hercule Poirot: Peril at End House.
8. Campfire Cooking Courses at Downsview Park

This month has been a cold one so far but if you’re willing to brave it, there is plenty of fun to be had outside at Downsview Park Discovery Centre. Find out how to cook on a campfire on January 14th or join in the Forest Games on January 28th.
9. Tobogganing at Centennial Park

Of course, you don’t have to go to Downsview for outdoor fun. All you need is a tray (or more sophisticated sled) and a hill and you’ve got yourself a family day out. Centennial Park has some great hills to try, but there are tons of other places you can go.
10. Visit your Local Library

Where: Your local library
If all that outside talk just doesn’t appeal to you, then maybe a visit to your local library would be more your thing. Of course, libraries aren’t all books and computers. There is a full suite of programs and workshops happening daily at most libraries in Etobicoke. Some require registration while others operate on a drop-in basis. Just look up your nearest location to find out what’s on near you.
