Businesses in Etobicoke: Funny Bones Games Lounge and Cafe

Each month we showcase a local business and this month we’re featuring Etobicoke newcomer Funny Bones. Everyone loves to play board games, so we’re thrilled that the newest business in our area is a games lounge and café! Funny Bones opened on March 11th of this year after raising money through a Kickstarter campaign. It is already a firm favorite with many residents and has garnered lots of good reviews.

A Welcome Addition

Funny Bones is the kind of place you expect to see in downtown Toronto and is a very exciting addition to the Lakeshore community of New Toronto.

Owners, John and Laurie, both grew up in Etobicoke and now reside in New Toronto, steps from Funny Bones. They both love board games, and recognized the neighbourhood’s desire for fun new places to hang out. So why not create one themselves?

This is a great place for young families, couples on dates, and of course the large population of Humber students to go and have a good time.

Funny Bones has received a very warm welcome from the families of New Toronto who want to  support a local business owned by neighbours.

Fun for Everyone

The fabulous Funny Bones has a roaring fire so that you can stay snug during the chilly weather. Even when it’s warm outside, you still need to exercise those little gray cells and what better way than playing a board game or two?

Funny Bones has a huge variety of games — more than 650 — to entertain children and adults alike. As well as old favorites like Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit, they have new games like Harry Potter and retro classics like Yahtzee.

There is a game here to suit everyone. Plus, if you really love a particular game, you can buy it and take it home with you! This is the type of place the whole community can enjoy. They are happy to host parties and would make a marvelous venue for a work outing. Why not get together with a group of friends for a Scrabble contest or teach the kids to play Twister?

Plans to Grow

The business was soft-launched about a month ago and you can come in and experience the fun board games for just $5. Snacks and soft drinks are available to buy, but owners John and Laurie want to expand this to include hot food, and are applying for an alcohol license too! They expect to be fully up and operational with a food and beverage license by July. They plan to host birthday celebrations and corporate parties, and have a calendar of events, including euchre and trivia nights.

Where to Find Funny Bones

Funny Bones is located on Lake Shore Boulevard between 10th and 11th Streets and has parking right outside. They are open from 3pm (on weekdays) or noon (on weekends) until late.
