As soon as the warmer evenings set in, so do the cravings for a sweet and cool treat. Ice cream is one of the best things about summer and thankfully our local area doesn’t disappoint. From the famous Tom’s Dairy Freeze to lesser-known locales, there are plenty of spots to choose from. In this post, we reveal our picks for the best ice cream shops in Etobicoke. Let’s jump in!
1. Tom’s Dairy Freeze
Where: 630 The Queensway, Etobicoke, ON M8Y 1K5
Located in the heart of The Queensway, Tom’s Dairy Freeze is an Etobicoke landmark that has been delighting families for almost 70 years! Aside from ice cream, sundaes, and shakes, you can get burgers, hot dogs, souvlaki, and more. On a hot summer’s eve, there might be a lineup around the block, but it’s worth the wait.

2. The Loop Creamery
Where: 3795 Lakeshore Blvd West, Etobicoke, ON M8W 1R2 (Inside Woodys Burgers)
Located in Long Branch, The Loop Creamery specializes in making hand crafted frozen custard. They use only six ingredients in their custard and make each batch on site from scratch. Their unique ice cream is made using a quick freeze technique which contains less air than most ice creams, making it super creamy and decedent. Some of their fun flavours include Strawberry Pop Tart, Pumpkin Pie, Matcha Banana and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
3. Lola’s Gelato
Where: 14B Brookers Lane, Etobicoke, ON M8V 0A5
This Humber Bay hotspot offers a break from rich creamy ice cream with its lighter gelato recipe. You’ll find a huge range of flavours, as well as brigadieros (a Brazilian treat), organic coffee, cookies, and gelato cakes.
4. Ed’s Real Scoop
Where: 2370 Lake Shore Blvd W, Etobicoke, ON M8V 1B6
After moving to Toronto and longing for the home-style ice cream his mother used to make, Ed decided to make his own. The first Ed’s Real Scoop opened in The Beaches many years ago, but there are now four locations, and we’re lucky that one of them is in Mimico. Here you’ll find all sorts of frozen treats as well as home-made chocolates and fudge. While there are many rotating flavours to chose from, our personal favourite is Burnt Marshmallow!
5. Demetres Kingsway
Where: 2962 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON M8X 1B7
Demetres Kingsway is another staple in the Etobicoke community and has been serving sweet delights for decades. It’s the perfect spot for dessert after a dinner out or an evening stroll. All of Demetres ice creams and sorbettos are developed and made-in house and they “take desserts to a whole new level,” complete with plenty of Belgian chocolate sauce, fresh cut fruit and crepes or waffles which can be paired alongside any ice cream.
6. Ice Cream Junction
Where: 3103 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6P 1Z9
This one is just outside Etobicoke, but it’s worth the visit. The fun décor and atmosphere will definitely appeal to your inner kid. Try sundaes, shakes, floats, and more, including some unique flavours. If you’re not that hungry and just need a quick sweet fix, try the “Itty Bitty,” a one-ounce mini scoop.
Choose one or try them all! Wherever you decide to go for your ice cream, we hope you have a sweet and cool summer. From your ThompsonSells team!
